Mandurah boxer Kiron Brown will enter his upcoming novice tournament in good form after picking up a win in his last bout.
In just his fourth fight the 24-year-old middleweight fighter claimed a technical knockout victory against Matt Pittaway on a 19-fight card in Wanneroo last month.
Just two rounds in the referee called an end to the fight and declared Brown the winner.
Brown said his experience from previous fights helped him get off to a quick start.
“Fighting in the novices means any experience you have can be a big help. I’ve had four fights now so I think that gave me a bit of a leg up,” he said.
“I felt like I had better preparation this time around compared to my last fight so it was a good result.”
Now, Brown is eyeing the top prize at a novice knockout tournament later this month.
The tournament will pit fighters against each other in a bracket format, with winners progressing to the next round while losers are eliminated.
Brown has battled hand injuries throughout his short boxing career, but now fit and firing hopes to put in a good show.
“I’m feeling pretty good so we just need to get the prep right,” he said.
“I think we’ll put in a few hard yards over the next couple weeks, then ease up the week before so it’s all fresh.
“I like to approach matches with a fair bit of aggression, so it’s important to be pretty rested before the fight.”
Coach Brian Satori said Brown would be able to play to his strengths in the upcoming tournament.
“Kiron’s a strong boxer. He’s dedicated to training hard and that is starting to pay off more and more when he’s in the ring,” he said.
“He’s got good power so it will be a pretty interesting tournament.”
Brown’s fellow gym member and current Australian super flyweight champion Alex Winwood is also currently in training for his next bout, which will be held in Sydney on Friday, December 9.
