The upgrade of the Clarice Street and Mandurah Road intersection is one step closer to becoming a reality.
The City of Mandurah gave the roadworks the green light during the ordinary council meeting on Tuesday night.
The $511,545 upgrade of the intersection was a precondition for the Mandurah Forum redevelopment approval, together with several other roadworks surrounding the shopping centre.
These included the upgrade of Dower Street between Pinjarra Road and Clarice Street currently underway, the construction of a roundabout in the intersection of Dower Street and Clarice Street, and the installation of new traffic signals on Pinjarra Road and Arnold Street.
The Clarice Street upgrade would take up to six weeks to be completed once the project receives the necessary approvals from Main Roads WA, and costs would be covered by Mandurah Forum developer Vicinity.
Officers from the City of Mandurah hoped the works would be able to start in around three weeks, once the Dower Street upgrade is finished and machinery can be transported to Clarice Street.
Due to small changes in the design, Main Roads WA is yet to give the approval.
However, it is forecasted that the works will be finished before Christmas if they go according to plan.
Nearby residents were being consulted about the project throughout the week.
