With over 3.51 million Australians working in the cultural sector; consumers investing $14.7 billion dollars in culture and 85% of Australians attending at least one cultural event annually, Art on the Move believes it is vital for the visual arts sector maximise opportunities and establish their role in the cultural and economic development of WA.
Funded through the Department of Culture and the Arts, those in attendance at the Regional Galleries forum will have the opportunity to make their voice heard, and to hear from a number of renowned creative industry professionals.
Special guests include Ricky Arnold (DADAA), George Walley (Nidjalla Waangan Mia Aboriginal Health), Colin Walker (Department of Culture and the Arts), Robert Heather (New England Regional Art Museum), Guy Boyce (Mandurah Performing Arts Centre / CircuitWest) and artists Miik Green and Indra Geidans.
The forum will also contribute to a review of the visual arts sector in Western Australia, which has been initiated with a survey and discussion paper available from the DCA website.
Art on the Move director Kim Jameson welcomed the review.
“The Regional Galleries Forum will contribute to the review by providing a platform for the sector to celebrate its unique qualities whilst facilitating a discourse on the need for a cohesive vision and strong sectorial leadership,” Ms Jameson said.
The speakers and facilitators will collaborate and engage with participants to help drive a positive and bright future for regional visual arts.
The forum will take place on Friday November 4 at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.
