A focus on environmental standards has seen the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club formally accredited as a level three Clean Marina and a level five Golden Anchor marina under the new Global Gold Anchor Scheme.
The program, administered by the Marina Industries Association, recognises the world’s top marinas, with the Mandurah club now the sixth to be accredited in Western Australia.
It rates marinas on their mechanical activities, boat maintenance and storage, facility management and boat repair, with Mandurah ticking all the boxes.
Presentations of the achievement were made during the club’s official sailing season open day.
Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club general manager Andrew Henshaw said the recognition was an important milestone for the club.
“It is an honour to receive both accreditations today which focus on environmental and operational standards, excellent customer service and the quality in our facility,” he said.
“The accreditations reflect our club’s commitment to continually strive for best practice in membership and marina operations and recreational boating facilities.”
Marina Industries Association director Stuart Walton praised the club for it’s front-foot approach to being environmentally sound.
“The club’s significant achievement is important as it demonstrates environmental leadership to the wider community,” he said.
“There are now six Clean Marina-accredited facilities in Western Australia with a number of other marinas currently preparing for audits.
“In total there are 69 marinas across Australia and Asia committed to environmental best practice.”
The club has held Gold Anchor accreditation since 2012, but facility upgrades since then have seen it rise to a level five.
“I am proud to announce that the Club has achieved a five Gold Anchor rating under the new Global Gold Anchor Scheme,” Mr Walton said.
The club is a modern 220-pen floating marina which includes a 200-metre collector jetty, 123 hardstand bays along with launching ramps and wash-down bays.
It also put on sailing demonstrations as part of the open day.
