Western Australia’s own Western Fury have taken in the surrounds of Nanga and Dwellingup as part of their pre-season training in the lead-up to what the team hopes will be a blockbuster season.
Coaches Lisa Keightley and Zoe Goss lead the team through a 20km section of the Bibbulmun Track, as well as Lane Poole Reserve.
Ms Keightley said it was refreshing to have the entire team working together on something outside the usual training.
“At night, we spent time just talking, getting to know each other better,” she said.
“Basically doing anything but talking about cricket, which was a nice change. We then did some kayaking in some very cold water.”
Ms Keightley said the retreat – which ended an intensive 16-week pre-season training schedule – allowed the team of realtively new players and coaching staff to bond and form strong relationships which would no doubt aid them in the upcoming season.
“Because we're a quite new team of staff and a lot of new players, it's really been our first opportunity to have all of the staff and players together,” she said.
“We're missing two of our players who are over in Sri Lanka at the moment, but it's the first time we've spent time together that was not about cricket skills.
“It's still about getting out of our comfort zones and pushing some of our limits, but just having that opportunity to have personal conversations about what's going on in each other's lives is really important.”
The Fury begin their 2016-2017 Women’s National Cricket League season on Friday October 14 against the ACT Meteors at the WACA, before clashing with the VicSpirit a day later.
