Liberal Dawesville candidate Zak Kirkup has revealed police minister Liza Harvey and police commissioner Karl O’Callaghan will front the local community on crime issues ahead of next year’s state election.
Mr Kirkup said he expects local crime and law and order issues to be a key theme of the campaign.
“Issues of law and order will be a dominant feature in the campaign, certainly it's something I'm seeing reflected across the community as I go about door-knocking and meeting with people,” he said.
“One of their foremost concerns is making sure that our community, our streets are safe and hoons are off our roads, and that the government maintains a tough line on criminals and cracks down on those who do break the law.”
Although recent statistics indicate the number of offences reported around the city had been falling, Mandurah was still recently named as one of the state’s top five crime hot spots.
The crime forum would permit residents to question Ms Harvey and the police commissioner on the government’s efforts to reduce crime in the region and to present their own ideas on crime reduction.
“This is great opportunity not just to hear about what the police commissioner and police minister have to say about those local law and order issues that we face every day, but also have their say to state's top cop about what more can be done to protect our neighbourhoods,” Mr Kirkup said.
