Nine year-old Madora Bay boy Harri Satie is on the warpath after his polite letters to the City of Mandurah council to request a swing be put in his local park were rejected.
Harri sent three different letters to the council last month and was very sad after not receiving any response.
In his letters, he was pushing to install more grown-up play equipment in McLennan Park, a reserve just around the corner from his home in Madora Bay.
The park currently has playing equipment for little children but lacks entertainment for children Harri’s age.
“There’s things but there’s a lot of things for little kids, not big kids,” Harri said.
“There is a lot of space in the park for more stuff.”
He said he regularly visits the park with his friends but they get bored very quickly due to the lack of facilities available.
However, he thinks that installing a new swing, which would be suitable and fun for all ages, would solve part of the problem.
“There would be more fun stuff,” he said.
“Because my friends live very close to me then they can come to the park with me and play.”
Harri’s mother, Lea Satie, said a lot of people use the park for boot camps and fitness training, and they would benefit enormously if exercise machines were put in place and the basketball court was extended.
She said the council recently undertook landscaping works in the park, planted more trees and installed a water fountain, but no more amusement facilities.
“They recently spent a lot of money and time over there just making it look pretty and putting a water bubbler and things like that and we are thinking, it hasn’t really helped what everyone wants,” she said.
“It’s this beautiful big park and it’d be great if they put like the exercise equipment that they’ve got down at the Marina just anything, or make the basketball court bigger for the kids, and there’s no skate park near here.”
Harri said he mainly wants to get a swing but he would also like the council to put exercise machines and improve the basketball court, which only has one basket, so they can play basketball games against each other.
The City of Mandurah was asked for comment.
