Despite winning just one match, the youthful squad of players came away with success through development, according to coach Brett Lee.
“For us, the carnival is all about developing our league’s young talent and the boys performed really well,” he said.
“They didn’t have much time to come together but they all got on well and played some good footy.”
Chad Wrigley and Jordann Ness were standout performers for the Cavaliers.
Both picked up all-star selections for their consistent form, while Wrigley took home the fairest and best award for the carnival.
Coach Lee said the duo’s individual accolades reflected a team effort from the Cavaliers.
“Those boys were outstanding throughout the carnival but they couldn’t have stood out without the work of their teammates,” he said.
“It was great to see Chad and Jordann recognised for their hard work throughout the carnival.”
The Cavaliers lost their opening two matches to Regional Districts and Great Southern, but the one-sided scoreboards didn’t necessarily reflect Peel’s effort.
But Peel hit back on day-two, notching their first and only victory of the tournament against what was an undefeated Northern Suns team.
The Suns won both of their matches on day-one and appeared likely to overcome Peel with ease, but the Cavaliers dug deep and forced an upset 6.6 (42) to 5.3 (33) win.
Their final game against the would-be champion South West side was another loss, but Peel performed admirably, keeping the margin under 20 points.
Coach Lee said the side became a much stronger unit as they played more football together.
“The side changed a bit from the carnival we played a few weeks before, so it was really good to see them coming together a little more as time went on,” he said.
“Thanks has to go to the Peel Football League for organising a good program and allowing us to field a good side.”
Cavaliers players will now return to their respective clubs and resume the remainder of the Peel Football League season.
