Perth has shivered through its coldest morning of the year with the 'feels like' temperature dropping to 1.5 degrees at 5am as the WA southern towns of Collie and Newdegate dipped below freezing point.
The Perth temperature stayed in single digits from 9pm Saturday to 9am Sunday, with the official mercury reading dropping to 3.5 degrees at 4.30am - making it the coldest day of the year so far, and the coldest day since September 2015.
The 'feels like' temperature on Sunday morning, however, dipped to 1.5 degrees at 5am and 1.6 degrees at 6.30am, making it a chilly start for early risers.
The previous coldest day of 2016 occurred on May 8, when the temperature dropped to 4.6 degrees.
The great southern town of Newdegate, east of Lake Grace, reached below freezing point at 6.30am with the Bureau recording a temperature of -1.1 degrees and a 'feels like' temperature of -3.4 degrees.
Meanwhile, the south-west town of Collie also shivered through Sunday morning with a minimum temperature of -0.1 degrees at 4.30am with a 'feels like' temperature of -2.2 degrees.
Other regional areas to feel the chill included Wandering which recorded -1 degree at 7am and Lake Grace and Bridgetown, which recorded 0.6 degrees at 6am and 6.30am respectively.
Although it's not quite time to ditch the blanket and slippers with an anticipated low of around 6 degrees overnight on Sunday the weather is anticipated to warm up in Perth through the week.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a mostly sunny day for the remainder of Sunday with a maximum of 18 degrees around 2pm, while the expected lows will move into double figures on Tuesday.
