As many as 1000 students are set to attend the Peel Jobs Fair on Wednesday, part of a government strategy to help students take advantage of an expected boom in the local jobs market over coming decades.
The fair features a range of exhibitors, including small and large employers, industry associations, government agencies, employment providers, educational institutions and apprenticeship advisers.
“The Peel Jobs Fair will provide an ideal opportunity for job seekers of all ages to discover what kind of work is available in the Peel region, as well as what study options are opening up and where the jobs of the future will be,” Mandurah Mayor Marina Vergone said.
“With a strong emphasis on the practical, the event will provide the opportunity for employers to list vacancies, and jobseekers to submit job applications and gain assistance and tips on being job ready.
“The Jobs Fair will feature representatives from a broad range of industries including tourism, mining, retail, education and aquaculture. The City of Mandurah is very supportive of any initiative that helps our people to find lasting, meaningful work in our beautiful region.”
Fair organisers said they expected a strong audience of year 11 and 12 students, school leavers and job seekers, with students from schools as far away as Narrogin attending.
Over the next 20 years, transformation and government investment in the Peel region will see the creation of 33,000 jobs driven by the area’s abundant resources, agricultural capabilities and tourism appeal.
By 2050, the population of the Peel region is expected to grow from 130,000 to 440,000 people.
Upwards of $3 billion worth of private sector investment into land and buildings is anticipated over the next 35 years.
There will also be seminars for employers to help prepare their workforces, hosted by the Peel Chamber of Commerce and Industry:
