Local MP Andrew Hastie has announced a $2 million commitment by the Liberal party to fund the Peel Youth Medical Service (PYMS) Health Hub if reelected.
The PYMS Health Hub would provide critical care and support services for people aged 12-24 in Canning suffering from mental and physical illnesses.
It would also provide support for alcohol and drug abuse related health problems and would be the first one in the nation of this sort.
Mr Hastie said the announcement brought the region one step closer to making the facility a reality.
The Canning Ice Action Group and the local community advocated for its establishment since October 2015.
The facility made headlines following a string of youth suicides earlier this year.
“Tragically, we have recently learned how important this facility is to the long term wellbeing of our young people, who are the future of the Peel region,” he said.
“We understand that by investing in projects such as this one, we help grow a more vibrant and viable community. I look forward to working with local and state government leadership to deliver this project.”
