PEEL Thunder’s South West Football League products continued to show their value to the WAFL side on Saturday, as former Carey Park best and fairest Brayden Lawler shone in the club’s victory over Swan Districts.
Lawler was named in the side’s best players after amassing a WAFL career-high 25 disposals, 19 of which came as kicks.
He also affected the scoreboard, kicking one goal and three behinds from four scoring shots.
The hard-nosed runner spent round one of the WAFL season playing in Peel’s reserves side but joined the ones in round two.
His first league appearance saw him record 13 disposals and six tackles as he worked his way to the pace of the match.
More comfortable in his second match at league-level in 2016, Lawler was a pivotal part of Peel’s 52-point drubbing of Swans.
Lawler played against fellow Carey Park products Graham Jetta (26 disposals) and Kirk Ugle (19 disposals).
Fellow Peel Thunder player and South West Football League product Ethan Hughes was also instrumental in the Thunder win, with 23 disposals and eight marks.
South West players in Peel’s reserves side were not as fortunate, being thumped by Swan Districts 20.12 (132) to 5.7 (37).
Dale Wilkinson, Karl Collard, Ashley Eades and Jamahl Mulholland could not help Peel’s twos to a victory.
Swans Districts’ SWFL talent stood tall in the win, with Rudy Riddoch, Logan Hughes and Ethan Maguire playing solid games.
