The call for a traffic count comes after residents met with deputy mayor Darren Lee and Mandurah MP David Templeman to discuss the increase in traffic caused by the Aldi development on the corner of Aldgate Street and Anstruther Road.
Residents also voiced concerns about a 201-bay carpark which was approved by council for the corner of Aldgate and Dower Street earlier this month.
City acting chief Allan Claydon said the City was working with a number of Aldgate Street residents to address concerns about traffic flow.
He said additional traffic counts in Aldgate Street would be conducted after the school holidays in April, and before the new Aldi supermarket opened.
“The France Street, Parkview Road and Dower Street intersections along Aldgate Street will also be investigated to determine traffic volumes and behaviour,” he said.
When the City previously investigated the traffic flow, counts showed 1500 vehicles per day were using the street.
Mr Claydon said once the additional traffic counts were complete, City officers would discuss outcomes and further actions with the residents.
“The City will review the traffic situation approximately three months after the Aldi store opens, and the City’s monitoring role will be ongoing.”
