A THREE cornered preselection race to replace retiring Dawesville MP Kim Hames is on the cards after reports the Navy’s most senior non-commissioned officer is interested in the job.
Warrant Officer of Navy Martin Holzberger, a decorated submariner, is understood to have the backing of emergency services minister and former Navy officer Joe Francis.
However, Mandurah lawyer James Versteegen is also seeking the nomination and there is speculation within the Liberal party that Murdoch University constitutional and human rights lawyer Lorraine Finlay is also considering the seat.
Mr Versteegen, a former staffer for former state attorney general Christian Porter, who is now federal Minister for Social Services, said in January he hoped to address ice abuse in the community and the low numbers of Peel students entering university.
Warrant Officer Holzberger and Ms Finlay would not comment on the speculation, however nominations for preselection close on April 15.
