Brand MP Gary Gray, who successfully fought off a preselection challenge late last year, has confirmed reports he will not recontest the next federal election.
ABC News reported Mr Gray was set to announce his retirement in their 7pm bulletin.
Shortly after, Mr Gray circulated a text message to local Labor supporters and media.
"Tonight I told local ALP members that I will not contest the seat of Brand in 2016, thank you for your support," the message said.
"All the best, Gary Gray"
Mr Gray has represented the area since the retirement of Kim Beazley in 2007.
His retirement means that Labor has no lower house sitting members contesting seats, with the retirement of Melissa Parke in Fremantle and Alannah MacTiernan is Perth.
Mr Gray has been contacted for comment.
