A MANDURAH man who allegedly smashed a speed camera after being clocked at close to twice the limit will face court this month.
On Thursday, February 11, a speed detection camera was set up on Mandurah Road, Madora Bay close to Catalina Drive monitoring traffic in a northbound lane.
It will be alleged about 8.10pm, a Toyota utility was captured travelling at 157km/h in a 80km/h zone.
A few minutes later the vehicle returned with the driver intentionally driving over the camera, smashing it.
The estimated cost of the damage is $97,000.
Traffic Enforcement Group 2 officers along with Mandurah detectives conducted inquiries and apprehended a 29-year-old Mandurah man.
He has been charged with criminal damage and reckless driving (exceed speed limit by 45km/h or more).
He is due to appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on February 23.
His vehicle was impounded for 28 days.
