Myths and fables will be explored when local artist Belinda Joynes presents her latest exhibition Mythopoeia at Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah (CASM) in February and March.
Mythopoeia will be officially opened by renowned arts consultant Paula Silbert at CASM at 6pm on Friday, February 12.
Joynes is described as a storyteller, fascinated with historical myths and fables.
Her work uses figurative narratives to explore themes relating to identity, connection and relationship to place from the female perspective.
Joynes’ works also explore changing spirituality in a multicultural, globalised society and the tendency for society to ornament, control and tame the natural environment.
Working predominantly in acrylics, Joynes uses bold colours, patterns and spiritual iconography to create very detailed works.
Mythopoeia is open until Sunday, March 6.
The public is invited to join the artist as she discusses her artworks and inspirations at the Artist Talk on Sunday, February 21 at 2pm at CASM.
CASM is at 63 Ormsby Terrace, Mandurah. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
