WITH a new committee and a new approach the Southern Sharks Soccer Club are ready to tackle 2016 with three enrolment fun days for two to 17 year olds during February.
The Southern Sharks experienced great success in 2015 with players selected to represent the district at country week, the state and play overseas.
Year 12 student Nico Burns will take his soccer further following the school year with the talented junior set to travel to America to play college soccer.
Nico said he couldn’t wait to attend college after finding out that he had been scouted to play soccer in the United States a year ago.
“It’s very exciting; it can’t come quick enough,” he said.
“I’m not nervous now but I think I will start to feel some nerves when it gets closer.”
The first of the Southern Sharks fun days at Coodanup Oval on Steerforth Drive will be held on February 6 and will feature soccer skill games from 10am-12pm.
The second session on February 13 will also feature soccer skills sessions as well as a bouncy castle from 10am-12pm.
The major enrolment day will be held from 10am-2pm on February 20 and will feature Brazilian soccer skills training, soccer games, a bouncy castle and rides, entertainment, a sausage sizzle and more.
Club secretary Kerry Ellery said the club was also seeking business who would like to sponsor a team uniform this year after last year’s were damaged due to a water leak.
“The uniforms cost about $300 for a team and we can put the businesses names on them,” she said.
“If anyone can assist us in anyway we would appreciate it greatly.”
For more information on the club or for sponsorship details call Vanessa Elwood on 0415 546 598.
Families with healthcare cards who are interested in having their children play soccer can access $200 of funding from the State Governments KidSport program.
