THE Peel Thunderbirds jumped into pre-season training last week with good numbers on track.
The Thunderbirds Youth Girls and senior players were put through their paces on Tuesday at Rushton Park North as their preparation for 2016 began.
The Thunderbirds Youth Girls went through the 2015 season undefeated to win back-to-back premierships while the Thunderbirds League side made a preliminary final.
With the AFL pushing to have a national women’s competition up and running in 2017, Peel Thunderbirds League coach Mark Fenton said it was an exciting time for women’s football.
“We encouraged anyone who ever considered playing football should come down and give it a try,” he said.
“You might just love it.”
The Thunderbirds are also still looking for players with girls born 1998 and earlier invited to attend training, no experience is needed.
The Thunderbirds Youth Girls train Tuesday and Thursday at Rushton Park North, Thompson Street Oval from 5pm with seniors starting at 6pm.
