LAKELANDS Primary School children and their families got a closer view of the stars at the school’s Sky View Night on Thursday.
The students have been learning about Earth Space Sciences this term with the event offering a more hands on experience.
The International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) and Fireballs in the Sky shared their knowledge on the night while participants viewed the night sky through telescopes, iPads and other devices.
Year 2 student Simeon Peletier said he saw shimmering stars through the telescope.
“I’ve never, never ever seen it before,” he said.
Other activities on the night included Lego radio telescope building, a talk on fireballs and meteorites, a meteorite identification activity and meteorite dissection activity, alka seltzer rockets and glow in the dark water rockets.
