A SHOCK result at Saturday’s local government election count has seen long-time councillor Don Pember lose his position on Council.
In a closely-fought contest between Mr Pember and newcomer Tahlia Jones for the Coastal Ward, Ms Jones beat out the incumbent by 195 votes to become the only new face on Council following the election.
Fred Riebeling convincingly held his spot on Council for the Coastal Ward.
He will be joined by Shane Jones, who narrowly held onto his East Ward position following a competitive campaign by Matt Rogers who failed to gain a seat by just 59 votes.
Caroline Knight and Ron Wortley held their North Ward seats, beating Jo Ward and Ashley King.
Peter Rogers romped it in for the single Town Ward seat, garnering more than 52 per cent of the vote.
Outgoing councillor Mr Pember has served on Council since 2001.
His replacement, Ms Jones, has promised to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime.
