Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, one of Ian Fleming’s most entertaining family stories, hits a Mandurah stage this week.
Directed by Karen Francis, the play is a blaze of colour and fun for all age groups as it wends its way through the discovery of an old racing car wreck found by the two Potts children, Jeremy and Jemima (Sebastian Cruse and Maryssa Pereira).
Their father Caractacus (Jon Lambert) and Grandpa Potts (Peter Sydney-Smith), combine their inventive skills, and finish up with a car with a difference – it fly like a bird and float like a boat.
The family and Truly Scrumptious (Christy Gray) – the heiress to the Scrumptious Sweet Factory – fly to the frightening country of Vulgaria which is ruled by a tyrant Baron Bomburst (Joshua Towns) who believes all children should be captured and put to work.
His Child Catcher (Scott Hansen) is efficient in his work, but he has the local Toy Maker (Rory Ellis) is working against him as he tries to hide the children.
The play is filled with lots of colourful action with pirates, soldiers, dancers and comedy, all helping to tell the story.
Performances start at 7.30pm on October 15-17, plus matinee performances starting at 2pm on October 17-18.
