A country electorate will be abolished under the WA Electoral Commission's draft electorate boundaries for the next State election in 2017.
Released last Friday, the draft electorate boundaries propose significant changes that will impact on representation for regional WA.
The number of country seats would drop to 16, with the number of city seats increasing to 43.
The changes will occur due to the massive increase in population in Perth's outer suburbs, according to the Electoral Commission.
Member for Moore Shane Love MLA said he was disappointed with the proposed boundary changes because the regional electorate of Eyre would be lost as a further metropolitan seat near Baldivis was created.
Under the proposed changes, the Electorate of Moore would increase in area to include the Shires of Wongan-Ballidu, Koorda, Goomalling and Dowerin.
"The Nationals WA made a submission that would have allowed the Electoral Commissioners to meet the requirements of the Act that involved minimal change," Mr Love said.
"Instead, the proposal is to abolish a country electorate and expand the area of the remaining electorates."
Mr Love said he disagreed with the notion of a reduction in the number of seats for country people, adding that the changes would make it more difficult for country voters to be represented.
"I encourage local governments, residents and businesses to look at the boundaries and make their views known to the WA Electoral Commission," he said.
"However, should the boundaries stand as suggested, I look forward to serving the people of the shires of Wongan-Ballidu, Koorda, Goomalling and Dowerin, should I be re-elected to Moore."
