A string of donations have set tails wagging at Nambeelup's K9 Rescue Group recently.
The State Government announced a $12,500 donation to the animal rescue this week, which president Carol Carter said would go towards vet bills.
“We spend in excess of $100,000 in vet bills every year,” she said.
“Obviously $12,500 is only a small amount of that but it will help.”
Local Government Minister Tony Simpson said the grant was one of six given to different animal shelter groups.
“The funding ensures the animals are being cared for, they're not roaming communities threatening wildlife, and the animals are being sterilised so the problem of stray animals is not exacerbated,” the minister said.
The grant comes after an anonymous donation of $10,000 and a contribution of puppy food and dog crate, all which were given to the animal rescue centre by members of the public.
“I would like to see the $10,000 go towards a puppy crèche which we want to build,” Ms Carter said.
“When dogs have given birth or are giving birth they need a sterile environment, away from the other dogs.
“At the moment, we use the bathroom.”
K9 is also expecting a $20,000 grant from Lotterywest which is set to be acquitted in October.
This would go towards the improvement of the centre's governance.
But despite all these donations, Ms Carter said more donations were needed.
“We particularly need blankets,” she said.
“We always need more blankets because it can get so cold for the dogs.
“They don’t always last as well – they’re either too dirty to wash or they’re torn to shreds.”
