THE man facing an assault charge in relation to the death of 51-year-old Sean O’Reilly last weekend faced Mandurah Magistrates Court on Friday and expressed confusion over the matter.
Dean Jorg Kowitz was charged with assault causing bodily harm following the discovery of Mr O'Reilly’s body in a carport on Boundary Road last Saturday.
Mr Kowitz has been in custody since the weekend and appeared via video.
He was not required to plead and was advised to seek legal advice and representation.
“I’m not certain about what’s going on,” Mr Kowitz said.
“I just hit him.
“Then I helped him home.”
Magistrate Vivien Edwards remanded Mr Kowitz for a further four weeks.
The police prosecutor said the pathologist required more time to determine the exact cause of Mr O’Reilly’s death, but that Mr Kowitz’ charge may be upgraded following the outcome of the post mortem examination.
