Perth shivered through its first cold snap of the season on Tuesday with the mercury plunging to a minimum of 4.4 degrees in Perth and 1.7 degrees at Jandakot.
Early morning travellers would have felt the chill with Perth Airport recording 3 degrees at 5.35am.
The thermometer was challenged at Gingin, 80 kilometres north-east of Perth with a bracing 0.5 degrees at 6.36am.
The place to be was Rottnest with a relatively balmy overnight of 13.7 degrees.
In the country, Wandering, in the Great Southern woke up to 0.5 degrees at 6am.
A Bureau of Meteorology spokesman said the reason for the freeze was cold air that had been driven up from the Great Southern which itself had experienced a blustery and cool Monday.
"Perth is going to warm up from now with a high pressure system pushing in some warmer air from the east and north-east," he said.
The forecast until next week is for beautiful May days with the minimum averaging around 9 degrees and the maximum about 23 degrees.
