THE City of Bunbury has joined with the local Nepalese community to encourage residents to support those affected by the tragic earthquake in Nepal this week.
Bunbury’s Nepalese community will hold a candlelight vigil at the Graham Bricknell Music Shell on Friday May 1 starting at 6pm to show support for those affected by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake, which has claimed more than 5000 lives and left tens of thousands homeless.
Members of the community will also be making donations to aid families in Nepal.
Bunbury resident Bishwa Mishra said local Nepalese families had been shocked by the tragedy and had
been intently watching television reports for news from their homeland.
“The lighting of candles is a way of showing support to those who have suffered from this tragic event,” Mr
Mishra said.
City of Bunbury Deputy Mayor Brendan Kelly encouraged Bunbury residents to show support to the local
Nepalese community of around 14 families.
“This is a time for our community to gather around the people affected by this terrible event and to show
them our thoughts are with them and their families and friends in Nepal,” Cr Kelly said.
