WATER access will be limited this weekend in order to facilitate the events at the Action Sports Games as well as the fireworks at the Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest.
The temporary water closures and special arrangements for the Action Sports Games begin on Friday and conclude on Sunday. They include the waters downstream of the Old Mandurah Traffic Bridge, extending from Carter Street north east to Dorsodura Way and to the Port Mandurah Canals, which will close 15 minutes before the wakeboarding event and fireworks display.
On Saturday, all the waters will be closed to anchoring and entry within a 100-metre radius of the fireworks firing point, located on the southern foreshore (adjacent to the War Memorial), at the entrance to Mandurah Canals. This area is set aside for safety measures during the setup and display of the pyrotechnics.
A vessel holding area, marked with orange buoys, will be available downstream of the closed waters to view the fireworks.
For the wakeboard event, slider ramp systems will be installed on Thursday and will remain until Monday, March 16. They will be lit to beyond international requirements to ensure visibility. Those navigating the area are to proceed with extreme caution, not exceeding a speed of 5 knots.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transport is urging skippers to check their vehicle registrations prior to Crab Fest. Department marine officers and Peel Water Police will be patrolling during the event.
Adam Rando, Department of Transport Senior Marine Officer for the Peel Region, said skippers should also ensure they have the required safety gear on board, including navigation lights, if they plan to be on the water after dark or before sunrise.
“Crab Fest is a wonderful event, and boating enthusiasts who properly prepare their vessel and plan their trip significantly reduce the risk of being involved in an incident on the water,” Mr Rando said.
