SOME parking areas will be closed for next weekend’s Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest, but the City of Mandurah is opening others to accommodate visitors. There also will be Park and Ride services available.
Some of the parking closures will begin on today with others occurring only during the festival itself on Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15.
Car park closures: Rotunda car park, parking station 3 on Mandurah Terrace, 6am on Tuesday, March 10 to 5pm on Tuesday, March 17; Hall Park car park: access off Pinjarra Road, 6am today to 5pm on March 17; Dome car park, parking station 8 on Mandurah Terrace, 6am on Friday, March 13 to 5pm on Monday, March 16; Gloria Jean’s car park, parking station 4, 6am on Saturday to 6.00pm on Sunday. Individual parking bays at the northern end of the car park will be closed for event infrastructure starting on Wednesday, March 11.
The King Carnival car park will be closed on Saturday due to water closures in place. The SES will staff this car park on Leighton Place, towards the northern end of the Western Foreshore.
Street parking closures: All Mandurah Terrace angle/parallel parking, 6am on Saturday to 6pm on Sunday; Mandurah Terrace angle/parallel parking between Cooper and Hackett streets, 6am on Wednesday to March 16 (no time specified); Mandurah Terrace angle/parallel parking northbound between Gibson and Cooper streets, 6pm on Thursday, March 12 to 5pm on March 16; Tuckey Street angle/parallel parking, from Mandurah Terrace to the entry of the Woolworths car park, 6am Saturday to 6pm on Sunday.
Access to private car parks will be limited to ensure pedestrian safety.
As well, 15 car parking bays within the Mewburn Centre car park on Sholl Street will be reserved for ACROD parking. The parking areas will be staffed from 8am- 8:30pm on Saturday and 8am-5pm on Sunday.
Additional parking will be available in designated areas, which will be staffed by the Mandurah Districts Rotary Club. The parking will be open from 9am-9pm on Saturday and 9am-5pm on Sunday.
The locations are: 62-63 Mandurah Tce; 64 Mandurah Tce; 39 Sholl St; 42 Sholl St; Hackett Street car park; 57 Mandurah Tce; 70 Mandurah Tce; 34 Sholl St; 36 Sholl St; 38 Sholl St; 40 Sholl St; Mandurah Primary School (Peel Street); and the Western Foreshore (northern end).
The Rotary Club will charge $5 per vehicle, with all proceeds to be donated to local community and sporting groups.
To help ease parking congestion, the City has two Park and Ride locations to get to Crab Fest central. Park at the John Tonkin High School oval on Tindale Street for Rockingham/Fremantle traffic and at Lesley Street Reserve on the corner of Leslie Street and Waterside Drive off Old Coast Road for south west traffic.
The City will provide free shuttle service from these designated parking locations to Ormsby Terrace. They will be staffed by Rotary and will attract a parking donation.
