Mandurah Performing Arts Centre's new Fishtrap Feast season kicks off next week with Elephents, a surreal soap opera in which people find the power to sing all the things they wish they could say.
This intriguing performance encompasses all sorts of unmentionable, yet painfully obvious situations: some people talk too loud, or sing off key. Some are bad cooks or never look clean. Sometimes someone thinks they’re getting away with an affair, but everyone knows about it.
In the fictional setting of Tuskville there is an elephant sleeping in every bedroom, hiding in every basement and perching on every street post. One character, Roger, is an aspiring but talentless songwriter. Another, Horton, spends millions renovating while his partner knocks on doors for charity. Flora is trying to reincarnate her grandmother with her own womb. These memorable people come to life thanks to the award-winning team of writer Jeffrey Jay Fowler and director Kathryn Osborne (Minnie and Mona play dead).
Performances are March 12, at 11am and 7:30pm; March 13 at 7:30pm, and March 14 at 7.30pm. The show is suitable for ages 15 and up.
Tickets are $25-$35 and available at manpac.com.au or from the box office on 9550 3900.
The Fishtrap Feast season will showcase WA and Australian contemporary theatre and dance. You'll be able to indulge in three entertainment courses: live music and refreshments in the foyer as an entrée, the performance as the main course, and a designer icy-pole and meet-up with the artists after the show as dessert.
