MORGAN Woodley drove David Hercules to the win in last Friday night’s $250,000 Perth Interdominion Fremantle Cup.
The David Thompson-trained pacer was purchased as a $15,000 yearling in 2008 and has now pushed his stake earnings to more than a million dollars.
It was the eight-year-old son of Artesians 36th lifetime success from 96 starts.
The only blimp on the horizon was a suspension to Woodley dealt out by the stewards after an inquiry regarding race tactics in the push for the lead when the arms of the mobile folded back at release point.
The young driver will still drive the equine millionaire on a stay of proceedings in tomorrow night’s $400,000 WA Pacing Cup from barrier nine.
Thompson and Woodley celebrated a double success on Friday night when Harriet Elisabeth saluted in The Gate Bar And Bistro Mares Pace.
Waroona trainer/driver Bob Mellsop gave young aspiring harness driver Bailey McDonough the reins behind Your Excused in the Garrards Junior Drivers Concession Challenge at Bunbury last Saturday night and he did not disappoint.
McDonough was able to record his first driving success.
Mellsop was still on a high after Dean Miller was able to salute with four-year-old Bettor Rules in the Bunbury New Year’s Eve Cup. Crossed by Chief Thundercloud after winning the start, Miller was able to make use of the sprint lane in the shadows of the post to record the pacers 10th win from 29 starts.
At the same venue, Pinjarra Tote manager, Chris Germaine celebrated when trotter Earl Harbour, trained and driven by Nigel Johns, saluted in the Jones Boys Honda Trotters event.
Nathan Turvey steered Red Hot Major to the win for Coolup trainer Gary Elson in the Bunbury Senior Citizens.
The Busselton and Albany meetings over the weekend, Shane Young saluted with a double, driving Lord Aviator and Village Conquerer to wins.
Michael Brennan and Michael George combined to win with Tommy Smith at the Albany meeting.
Last Monday’s Pinjarra Paceway meeting, sponsored by Barrie “The Chicken Man” Devereux saw Dylan Egerton-Green win with Jungle Genie in the Keith Devereux Pace for Greg and Skye Bond.
Egerton-Green saluted with a driving double with Robyns Raider for the Bonds in the Chicken City Conditioned Pace.
Turvey again took the reins for Elson at Pinjarra and was able to win with debut performer Ideal Tyson.
Other winners on the day included Robbie Maguire, Lucky Drew, Scott Bay and Tarsao. Pacing will return next Monday.
