PEOPLE with disabilities get on the water with a new purpose-built boat.
The Fishers with Disabilities vessel set sail in Mandurah on earlier this month.
The vessel was modified at the back to allow wheelchair access and electric fishing rods were added to make taking part easier for people with disabilities.
A group about 20 went out and tested the new boat and came home with a bucket of whiting.
Recfishwest chief executive officer Andrew Roland said it allowed more people to enjoy the sport.
“It provides access for offshore fishing for those with disabilities,” he said.
“Opening up the back of the boat to allow wheelchairs to go on and off with ease.”
Financial support to modify the boat was secured by Fishers with Disabilities from partner Recfishwest through the Recreational Fishing Initiatives Fund.
