THE Mandurah Boardriders Club took out third place at the Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle on the weekend.
Held at the iconic Injidup car park surf break just south of Yallingup in three-four foot waves, the event saw six surfers from each club compete in skins, women’s and teams divisions.
An impressive list of Western Australian surfers revelled in the opportunity to represent their local clubs in hopes of qualifying for the national final in Cronulla, New South Wales in January next year.
The Mandurah club coached by Nick Black were well represented by Brain Williams (senior) Nick Burkett, Matt Lodge, Brendon Collision (opens), Skipper Van Peer (women) and Ace Van Peer (junior).
“Mandurah Boardriders really took it to some very talented surfers and can hold their head high with the level that they competed at, earning respect for their efforts from their peers,” Black said.
Mandurah Boardriders took home $500 prise money for their efforts and narrowly missed out on a top two spot that would have meant immediate qualification to the national final.
Margaret River were the event winners closely followed by Yallingup Boardriders.
Mandurah Boardriders will now apply for the wildcard position in the hope of travelling and competing in the national final.
