VICTORIAN Chris Burbidge narrowly defeated Western Australian Brett Ozanne to take out the 2014 Hobie Kayak Bream Series Australian Championship in South Yunderup.
Burbidge weighed in three black bream each day for a total weight of 3.27 kilograms to win the first ever bream grand final in WA.
He was followed closely by Ozanne with six fish weighing 3.12kg with Queenslander Michael Maas in third with a 3.06kg six-fish haul.
Daniel Brown from New South Wales led the competition after the first day of fishing though failed to register a catch on the second day which saw him slip to 11th overall.
The weather was kind to the anglers with winds gusts up to 25 kilometres per hour in the open areas of the inlet and up the Murray River later in the day.
Most anglers though were comfortable fishing within the confines of the river systems where the wind was broken by the tree line along the banks.
