FRESH, healthy food was in focus at Halls Head Primary School last Wednesday.
The year two class ran a Nude Food Day event, to encourage the whole school to bring lunch that isn’t processed or packaged.
The Nutrition Australia initiative also gets students to reduce waste from food wrappings.
“We conducted a waste audit the week before Nude Food Day and on the day to see the difference not bringing packaged food made,” teacher Nardine Sheridan said.
“Most classes reduced their landfill waste by about two thirds and increased the amount of fresh food eaten.”
Students took part in a range of activities including a quiz and a colouring competition and fruit and vegetables donated by Farmer Jack’s in Halls Head.
The year two class buried a variety of wrappings to model how a landfill works and they will dig them up next year to see whether they broke down.
