MANDURAH Board Rider Maverick Wilson showed of his surfing skills to take out the under eights mixed final at the Surfing Western Australia annual Wahoo Grommet Competition at Trigg Point on November 8.
The event is designed for under eights through to under 14s for both boys and girls.
Maverick’s heat score of 11.83 out of 20 was enough to seal the deal as he led from start to finish to take home the prestigious trophy.
Sunny Higgins from the Mandurah club placed fourth in the final of the under eight division.
Wilson backed up his win on the weekend at Mandurah Board Rider’s second junior contest at Pyramids Beach.
Higgins finished second at the local event ahead of Sam Baker and Lexan King.
Ace Flynn also impressed Wahoo Grommet Competition despite being the youngest competitor in the field placing second in his final heat.
His older brother Kai placed second and third in his heats to just miss out on a place in the final.
Brock Launders, new to the Mandurah Boarders Club, finished third in the under 10 boys.
In the girls Wahoo competition, April McPherson continued her solid form finishing a close second to Emma Cattlin from Yallingup in her under 14 girls final and Zali Corry finished third in the under 12 girls.
Corry backed up her third placing at Mandurah Board Riders meet last weekend winning her division in a stand-out performance.
Toby Jenkins returned from recent surfing trip to Indonesia to take out the under 10 boys’ local competition which included a perfect 10-point ride in his semi final.
Mandurah Board Riders’ next competition will be held at Pyramids Beach on the December 14 at 7am.
