A WANNANUP couple charged with obstructing police who attended their home to arrest their son were fined in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
John and Anna Whitehead each pleaded guilty to the offence which related to an incident at their home on August 4.
The court heard police officers went to their home that evening to speak with their son Michael Whitehead about a disorderly behaviour and an excessive noise charge.
When police arrested Michael Mrs Whitehead grabbed a constable by the jumper and said “I will kill you”.
Mr Whitehead grabbed an officer by the shoulder while Michael was placed in a police van.
The court heard the officers called for back-up with Mrs Whitehead continuing to abuse police before having to be restrained from entering the van.
Counsel for the Whiteheads said the couple had written an apology to police and were both upstanding citizens.
Both were said to be remorseful.
Magistrate Vivien Edwards referred to Mrs Whitehead’s behaviour as worse than her husbands and fined her $1000 plus court costs.
Mr Whitehead was fined $750 plus court costs.
Appearing immediately after his parents, Michael Whitehead pleaded guilty to his charges which included obstructing police on the same evening.
The court heard Michael had been involved in a dispute on July 20 when he bared his buttocks to a neighbour before doing burn-outs in his vehicle.
On his arrest Michael struggled with police and kicked at the van door.
The family is understood to have tried to deal with Michael’s charges earlier that day but had been unable to speak with appropriate officers.
Michael was described as “immature” by Magistrate Edwrads who fined him $1800 plus court costs.
