PINJARRA Paceway will host a Heat Night of the 2015 Tabtouch Inter Dominion Championship on December 1 next year.
The venue will be the first in the state to host such an event and club officials are leaving no stone unturned.
The Inters Series is worth $1.3 million, making it the richest harness race in the world.
In excess of 6000 people are expected and new track lights which enable the venue to be showcased on the world stage should be installed.
Planning stages with Racing and Wagering Western Australia are currently underway for both projects.
Given the small time frame in which the club will have to get both projects off the ground, nthis season’s annual general meeting at Preux Chevalier Lounge on November 26 will be well attended.
Several new initiatives for owners and breeders already on the ground will make it a rewarding prospective for owners who race a pacer in WA.
This week it was announced Australian Pacing Gold (APG) will conduct a special heat of the APG race series at Pinjarra.
It will start with the APG Yearling Sales in March and will not only offer the normal base stakes prize money, but also up to $26,500 in added bonuses and travel incentives, only available to fully sustained APG graduates. Off the track the Pinjarra club will host several initiatives in the lead up to the festive season.
Former race caller John Hunt, an icon in Western Australia for his unique way of calling races at Gloucester Park, will release his new book called The View From The Clouds on November 10.
His ability to paint a picture of the position of every pacer in the race for those not on course is still spoken about by those who regret his retirement.
Hunt will be available to sign book purchases and is sure to want to call a race on the day.
Pacing will return to Pinjarra next Monday.
Several winners from a fortnight ago at the 1000-metre venue will head to Gloucester Park for the final of the Garrard Westbred Final.
The race will feature the Justin Prentice-trained and driven Mista Rush, Ti Amo Franco for David Jackson, The Dyfi Dabbler for trainer Darren Schofield and Hugh Victor for trainer Stephanie Smith.
Smith has been doing a good job with the pacer since his arrival in her stable a few months ago.
His run in the Premier Hotel Pinjarra Pace two weeks ago, made punters sit up and take notice.
The draw of barrier 11 at Gloucester Park is not ideal but with Morgan Woodley in good form again with the reins in recent weeks, including a winning drive last Friday night behind the Tony Svilicich-trained Shardons Rocket in the Navy Cup, will give Hugh Victor a stronmg chance.
The continuing battle between Sensational Gabby and Leda McNally will definitely have harness enthusiasts looking on.
The barrier draws reversed with Sensational Gabby drawing pole and Leda McNally, recently named Mare Of The Year at the annual awards day, drawing barrier two, tactics and race moves by their respective drivers, Chris Lewis and Chris Voak sure to be a feature at the city venue.
