SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD dirt karter Joe Chalmers drove himself into the record books last weekend after competing in five different classes at the 2014 West Australian Dirt Kart Championships.
Held at the Busselton Dirt Kart Club, Chalmers completed the achievement by putting each of his karts on the podium with two wins, two seconds and a third place finish.
His victories were in the KT Twin and KT Light classes, second place finishes in J Open and 100 Open and a third in the 100 Open field.
In an event based on points gained from all races he displayed outright speed and consistency.
Of the 25 races he entered over the three days he recorded a six wins, seven second place finishes, four third place finishes and a 22 top five finishes.
He started racing karts as a junior in 2008 and made the jump to senior competition in 2012. In the space of less than three years he became a four-time national champion.
The level-headed South Yunderup driver is only too eager to help his fellow competitors and mentor the junior drivers in the sport.
