IT WAS murder on the dance at the Kwinana Dance Festival recently, with Mandurah’s Dance Avenue taking home seven awards.
Competing against 24 other schools, students walked away with the under nines troupe award, the under sevens aggregate and encouragement awards, the under 11s aggregate and encouragement awards, the under 13s aggregate award and the under 15s aggregate award.
Dance teacher Peta Clackett said the dancers trained three to four days a week to get the level they competed at.
“There were lots of schools there and lots of good schools,” she said.
“It was so great to get the awards for to those categories.
“The kids worked so hard.”
The Dance Avenue students practice in tap, jazz, acro, ballet and hip hop in preparation for different competitions throughout the year.
The Kwinana Dance Festival, a regular competition on the Mandurah school’s calendar, is an eight-day event designed for dancers in the south metropolitan area.
