CARCOOLA Primary School students’ hard work and planning paid off on October 18 with their Carcoola Car Wash a huge success.
The car wash, organised by year six and seven student councillors, was a fundraising event to discount an upcoming school camp.
The students’ teacher Sharon Hunt said the children had hoped to raise $500 and dreamt of $1000.
“There was a loud shout and cheer when the final figure was announced of $1712,” Ms Hunt said.
The first cars rolled into the Shire of Murray car park at 9am and there was a steady flow until the car wash came to an end at 2pm.
The children, along with parents and teachers, worked tirelessly washing car after car as well as serving cupcakes, tea, coffee and a sausage sizzle to the customers.
“It was pleasing to see how many parents and locals jumped in to help,” Ms Hunt said Sharon Hunt
A donation from the Bendigo Bank Pinjarra went towards the purchase of supplies for the day and the staff from the bank spent the day collecting money and helping where needed.
Shire of Murray chief executive Dean Unsworth cooked the sausage sizzle and the Shire made a cash donation along with a gym membership for a raffle held on the day.
The Dome Pinjarra also donated vouchers for the raffles.
“Without the support from these people the event would not have been possible,” Ms Hunt said.
“Without all the parents and families who rolled their sleeves up for the kids the event would not have been as successful.”
