LOCAL country music singer Jonny Taylor continues to make his mark on the industry and has been nominated for a Western Australian Music (WAM) award.
As one of the few regional performers nominated for this year’s awards, Taylor said he was a privilege just to be nominated for the Best Country Act award.
“It’s nice to be recognised by the music industry,” the country singer said.
“Being a regional performer, it’s great just to be noticed.
“A lot of regional performers feel a lot of disconnect from not only the industry but other performers as well.
“Where you live can be the difference between attending networking opportunities and not attending.
“It’s hats off to WA Music for looking outside of Perth for these awards really.”
The WAM awards (known affectionately as the WAMis) play a vital role in recognising the achievements and output of the WA music and industry talent.
“Across all categories the competition is tight this year,” Taylor said.
“It’s a real treat just to be nominated with these people.”
After a year of touring across the country, Taylor said he is back in the state for the rest of the year, preparing the follow-up record for Something to Say.
“I really want to take my time with this one,” he said.
“I always build pressure on myself to keep the product new and to help promote myself but I want to pay special attention to this one.
“That’s my focus for the rest of the year and it should be out sometime next year.”
The WAM awards will be at Capitol nightclub in Perth on November 7.
