WHEN Kirra Treg was four years old, she never dreamed she would apply for ballet apprenticeships in Europe.
Now 18, the Mandurah dancer is preparing to travel to London, Germany and Switzerland to audition for some of the world’s top ballet companies.
A full-time ballet student at Charlesworth Ballet College (CBC) in Perth, Ms Treg was chosen to go on the annual Europe audition tour.
Despite the language barrier, Ms Treg aims to be accepted by a touring company in either Germany or Switzerland.
“Some places I know only speak French or German but I always wanted to learn a language anyway,” she said.
“It will be fun but also hard.
“And I’m hoping for a touring company because I do really want to travel.”
Having already played one of the four cygnets in Swan Lake, the Diamond Fairy in Sleeping Beauty and cupid in Don Quixote, Ms Treg hopes she will one day play a lead role for a major ballet company.
But it’s the challenge of the art, rather than the roles which attracts her to ballet.
“I want to be that someone out there that makes it looks so easy when it’s not,” she said.
“No one really knows how hard it is.”
Ms Treg was also one of three students from CBC accepted from 2000 applicants for a call-back audition for the Sydney Dance Company’s apprenticeship.
While excited about the opportunity, Ms Treg said wanted to see what Europe had to offer first before coming back to Australia.
“Sydney is the end goal; to come back to Australia,” Ms Treg said.
“I’d be a little closer to home and I’ll have the life experience from being in Europe.”
