STUDENTS at Pinjarra Senior High School used their sports carnival last week to raise awareness of mental health issues in the region.
The event was in the lead up to Mental Health Week, which runs from Sunday, October 5 to Sunday, October 12.
Happy Heads Pinjarra founder Kerry Fenner said it was important to get students involved as the school had 13 instances of self harm last year.
Pinjarra principal Alan Hunt said he was pleased the students were so keen to get involved with raising awareness.
“It’s about reducing the stigma of mental illness both at school and at home,” he said.
As part of the week, Rotary Clubs throughout the country will hold Hat Day on October 10, where people put on their best head gear, make a donation and help shine a light on mental illness.
Mental health group Happy Heads Pinjarra will hold a high tea at Edenvale on Saturday, October 11 from 9am-noon.
Happy Heads hold a free support group regularly in Pinjarra for people struggling with mental health-related issues as well as partners and family members of people in tough situations.
