STAFF and students celebrated the region’s mix of cultures at Glencoe Primary School’s cultural day.
Students listened to stories told by local indigenous speakers and took part in activities including dancing, tool making and storytelling.
Children and teachers had their faces painted in traditional Maori styles with help from parent volunteers and students created African-style masks using large pieces of bark and gave using chopsticks a go.
“The students and teachers enjoyed sharing their family heritage with their school community and learning from each other on this day about cultural diversity in the world and appreciation of differences,” Glencoe art teacher and cultural day organiser Carol Cole said.
The day was made possible through community sponsorship from Bendigo Bank Halls Head and a Partners in Acceptance, Learning and Sharing grant from the Department of Aboriginal Affairs.
