YOUNG power puncher Chas Robinson left the ring with another win against Michael Tucci on the weekend.
The Ed Shed’s boxer came out with a split decision victory in a rematch against the Hassans Boxing Club fighter on Saturday.
Robinson had to again gain weight for the 60-kilogram junior division bout; a move which left the Mandurah boxer feeling tired last time around and Saturday’s fight at the Croatian Club was no different.
“Again giving away more than three kilograms in weight, Chas was able to tough out a split decision victory,” coach Eddie Kuznicki said.
“Chas was not at his best on the evening with his timing and shot selection slightly off, but his superior fitness and desire got him over the line.”
Robinson’s next step is looking for a compatible opponent in the 57kg junior division, rather than needing to gain weight before each fight. “We’re looking for someone who is a step up in class,” Kuznicki said.
“Effectively we’ve won bouts against all of the novices and now we want to step it up a class.”
Team mate Jackson England also entered the ring on Saturday taking on former national title-holder Baz Wallace.
It’s the third time the Ed’s Shed boxer has taken on the fighter from Denning Boxing and Fitness Gym and Kuznicki said England had improved every time the pair had met.
Unfortunately the Mandurah boxer still came out with loss against the “judges’ favourite” in the 60kg youth division.
“From the outset Jackson controlled the bout with tactical superiority and a water-tight defence,” he said.
“It appeared to many that Jackson had done more than enough to claim a victory but unfortunately the judges did not see it that way.
“Jackson has completely reinvented himself in regards to his attitude towards training and this showed in his performance. “He now has self-belief in his own abilities and understands that coupled with an intense training regime that he can achieve whatever he sets his mind to.”
England and Kuznicki are hoping for a rematch against Wallace in the upcoming weeks, preferably before the Golden Gloves and state titles at the end of the year.
Both England and Robinson’s next bouts bouts are on September 21.
