THE City of Mandurah will receive nearly $3million under the Federal Government’s Financial Assistance Grants program.
On Monday it was announced councils in the Canning electorate, which includes Mandurah, Murray, Boddington, Serpentine-Jarrahdale and Waroona, would receive a total of $12,318,648 this financial year.
The Federal Government is rolling out $2.3billion to local councils nationally in 2014-15, with Western Australian councils taking away a $282.7m share.
“One of the great benefits of these grants is that councils are free to spend the funding according to local priorities, whether that is for road projects, infrastructure, health and recreation services, or the environment,” Canning MP Don Randall said.
But City of Mandurah executive Mark Newman said the City's future funding allocation had been frozen by the Government.
“The funding is in line with expectations and has been included in budget forecasts,” he said.
“However, it is important to note the funding allocation has been frozen by the Federal Government for the next three years and therefore the growth that was expected will not occur.”
Mr Newman said the Financial Assistance Grants program was an annual grant that formed part of the council’s general revenue.
