MANDURAH and Rockingham met in the Southern Derby on the weekend in wet and windy conditions.
In a high quality rugby match Mandurah’s first grade team narrowly defeated Rockingham 13-11 for the Gary Gray Shield.
A solid start by both teams kept the scores even throughout the first half.
The second half saw Mandurah team edge in front by two points, a lead they were able to hold for the remainder of the game despite countless attempts by Rockingham.
Mandurah’s second grade team was too strong for Rockingham running out 19-point winners, 31-12.
Rockingham forfeited in third grade to hand the win.
The side is now second on the ladder.
This weekend all three teams will play their last last game before finals against Nedlands at home.
Third grade kick off at 12.30pm, second grade follows at 1.40pm with both sides fighting for fourth position and first grade starts at 3pm.
The Mandurah Pirates call for all supporters to show their support as the teams push for finals.
The round will mark the club’s Back to Mandurah day with ex-players and club members invited to the club.
