Police have charged one man with a raft of driving and robbery charges and are searching for a woman after a high-speed chase through West Swan on Wednesday afternoon that allegedly saw a Suburu Forrester drive on the footpath and into oncoming traffic.
The man and the woman were allegedly involved in two robberies between 4.30pm and 5.10pm, first allegedly breaking into the shed of a house on Blundell Street before being disturbed attempting to break in to the house.
They allegedly fled the scene in Subaru Forrester, stolen from a home in Welshpool, before pulling into a house in Harrow Street, where they allegedly broke in through the front door.
The owner arrived home to find the stolen vehicle in his driveway, with the man and a woman telling him to get out of the way before allegedly getting back in the stolen car and fleeing the scene.
Police spotted the Forrester on West Swan Road and gave chase. The Forrester briefly stopping at the corner of Reid Highway and West Swan Road, where the woman jumped out of the car and ran into bushland.
The driver of the Forrester allegely did everything in his power to evade police, driving on a foot path and driving in the wrong direction towards incoming traffic.
The Forrester narrowly missed two pedestrians walking a dog, collided with a Toyota Hilux and side-swiped three cars and a truck on Reid Highway.
Police used a spike-strip device to stop the Forrester, after which the driver allegedly attempted to car-jack another Forrester, grabbing the female driver by the shirt and attempting to pull her from the car as her 13-year-old son watched from the passenger seat.
The woman's seatbelt kept her in the car, and police tackled the man before he was able to flee again.
The driver, a 21-year-old man from Koondoola, has been charged with 10 driving and robbery offences and is scheduled to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday.
The woman who jumped out of the car is believed to be in her mid-20s, fair skinned, with long brown hair, wearing grey tracksuit pants and a blue long-sleeved shirt.
