CONTEMPORARY Arts Spaces Mandurah (CASM) will officially open for business with the launch of a new exhibition titled A Digital City in a Connected World this Friday.
The exhibition, CASM’s first official show under its new name, is a themed competition sponsored by Telstra.
Artists have been asked to explore and engage with the concepts of digital technology, connectedness, imagined future technology and the influences of contemporary digital products within Mandurah and beyond in two and three dimensional materials.
Mayor Marina Vergone said the centre changed it’s name from INQB8 Mandurah Centre to Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah (CASM) to better reflect it’s growth and maturity in the art sector.
“CASM will continue to deliver an exciting program, enhancing the vibrant and active arts and cultural core of the city,” she said.
Telstra is sponsoring the competition, with two cash prizes of $500 and $1000, with another technology award to support the winning artists in their continued arts practice.
Tich Dixon and Carol Clitheroe will also present an artist’s talk on Thursday, July 10, discussing their recent artwork, a mural on the Telstra communications exchange building on Forrest Street, Mandurah.
A Digital City in a Connected World runs from this Friday to Sunday, August 10 at 63 Ormsby Terrace, Mandurah.
Gallery hours are Wednesday to Sunday from noon-4pm and Thursday from noon-5pm.
The exhibition has generated a lot of enthusiasm and support from local and international artists from as far away as Hamburg, Germany.
